Consumers have been urged by a financial advice firm to shop around and compare deals when thinking about taking out life insurance.
Surrey-based company Libra Financial Planning has stated that people need to look at the entire market when considering cover in order to get a good idea of what is available to suit their needs.
The spokesperson for the firm, Stuart Budgen, added that they should not presume they will get the best deals from their bank, stating that supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsburys do offer cheap deals.
However, he also suggested that anyone who is unsure of what they want from their cover "should see an adviser".
Recent figures from the Association of British Insurers found that 40 per cent of households in the UK have a life insurance policy.
In addition, the same study found that the insurance industry paid out around £17 million in death benefits throughout 2006.
